Good Vibrations for People with Parkinson’s Disease

Researchers at Rush Medical Center Say Vibration Therapy Helps People with PD

What is the SMART Lounge?

The SMART Lounge used in the Rush Medical Center research study is manufactured by NexNeuro. It uses proprietary transducers engineered to vibrate the body with low frequencies for optimal psychological and physical impact. Tissues throughout the body vibrate to music medicine recorded by Dr. Susanne Jonas that resonate through the body’s nerves, skin and bones.

The SMART Lounge nourishes the mind – body connection and thus enhances the neurological system’s ability to function efficiently and effectively. Vibration therapy combines sound therapy and vibration into a single therapy which facilitates the healing effects of brain entrainment. Brain entrainment or “brainwave synchronization” is any practice that aims to cause brainwave frequency to fall into step with a periodic stimulus having a frequency corresponding to the intended brain-state (e.g., to induce sleep).

The SMART Lounge’s composers orchestrate binaural beats and brainwave entrainment into the three CDs for persons who are currently experiencing the symptoms of Parkinson’s: Depression Release, Sweet Sleep and Kinesthetic Audio for Parkinson’s.

The SMART Lounge is designed to be set up in a room your home. Many people set it up in their exercise rooms. It is the size of a chaise lounge chair.

100% Day Money Back Guarantee

NexNeuro, the company that manufactures the VibroMax and the SMART Lounge, offers a 30 day 100% money back guarantee. The feedback I have heard from people who have experienced the therapeutic effects of vibroacoustic therapy indicate that people experience a noticeable relief of symptoms soon after use. Depending on the person and the symptoms, positive effects last from several hours to several days. In other words, you don’t have to experience vibration therapy for more than 30 days before knowing whether it will offer you sustained relief from your symptoms.

As I see it, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain to give either the VibroMax or the SMART Lounge a try. If vibration therapy does not help as much as you would like, you can always ship it back  Nexneuro for a full refund within 30 days after receiving your shipment.

I personally believe sound therapy is the medicine of the future. Vibrations enhance the effects of sound. I like this technology because it offers people who are seriously debilitated with the symptoms of Parkinson’s a viable opportunity to get back on their feet and join others who are on the road to recovery. If a person cannot walk, they probably cannot exercise, but they will be able to take advantage of vibration therapy.

    hi

are there any testimonies of people using this equip, also is it available in canada?

are there any medial endorsement in the parkinson field?

    thank you

      Hi Ron:

Several guests on my weekly radio show have reported excellent results from using the SMART lounge. Lee Bender says it helped him tremendously. Lee is a bit biased as he is the father of the man who created the Lounge. Holly Hughes, a guest on my radio show last year in April, also touted success with using the lounge.

Researchers at Rush Medical Center in Chicago have been doing a research study of the SMART Lounge using 20 research volunteers in the Chicago area. I have not yet seen a written report of their findings, but there are news reports posted on the website here with the Rush neurologists reporting promising results.

You can order the lounge through this website. The company does ship to Canada, but there will likely be additional shipping charges. The price includes $200 in shipping, so anyone needing the lounge shipped to Canada need only pay a shipping cost that exceeds $200 US dollars. After you order you will be contacted to verify the method of shipping you prefer and any additional shipping charges that will be required.

Is the sound from the headphones very loud. I have tinnitus in my left ear and I am not
sure how it will be affected by the headphones. Can they be placed outside the eardrum.

    • admin said, on April 1, 2011 at 9:35 pm

The sound from the headphones is controlled by a CD player so you can turn the volume up and down as needed. The higher the volume, the stronger the vibrations. It is a question of adjusting the volume to a level that works for you.

You do not have to put the headphones on to benefit from the vibrations. You will just not get the benefit of sound combined with vibration. Vibration has benefits in its own right, as Dr. Charcot determined 120 years ago!

Can this be used if you have had Dbs surgery?

    • admin said, on May 1, 2011 at 5:06 pm

The therapy is natural and noninvasive. You can control the intensity of vibrations by adjusting the volume of the sound to suit your needs.

I know the Rush Medical center is doing a formal evaluation of the SMART Lounge, though I do not know whether any of the subjects had DBS. They should be reporting results of their study soon. I have not heard back from anyone specifically who has had DBS and used the SMART Lounge, so I have no specific case study evidence to report.

        HI,
WAS WANTING TO KNOW HOW MANY SESSION OF THIS VIBRATION THERAPY WILL IT TAKE TO SEE POSITIVE RESULTS ? HOW LONG ARE THE SESSIONS ?
ALSO, HAS ANY ONE USED THIS ON THE AUTISTIC POPULATION ?
        THANKS,
        WAITING FOR A REPLY

        • admin said, on August 8, 2011 at 6:16 am

How long does it take to see positive results? This clearly will vary but people who use it tell me that they experience a positive outcome from each session,
The effect builds over time, You should not have to wait long to know how this therapy effects you.

The sessions are as long as you want to make them. You can listen to an entire CD – which can be 30-40 minutes – or less. It is really all up to you, The intensity of vibration is affected by the CD that you play. People tell me that its effects last 24-48 hours, so they typically use it every other day. It is an enjoyable, stress reducing experience so some people use it every day. I like it because it helps everyone in the family (and neighborhood!).

I do not know whether anyone has used it on an autistic population, but I suspect it would help greatly strengthen the mind -. body connection. To my knowledge, no research has been done on that particular population, The technology is really very new (though the idea is 120 years old!).

Hi. I was wondering if the vibration therapy had any benefit on other symptoms such as very slow bowel motion and difficulty in staying asleep.
Also, do the machines work in other countries with the different frequencies such as Australia? Are they available in other countries?
    Thank you for your help,

    Regards,
    Colleen

Results of the research study being conducted through Rush Medical School have not yet been released, so the jury is out on which specific symptoms are primarily influenced
by vibration therapy. In general – it strengthens the mind-body connections throughout the body. I have not heard any direct reports on slow bowel motion specifically.

There is a sleep CD that comes with the vibration equipment which does help with sleep. I have heard back from a number of people that it does help with sleep patterns.

Yes – the equipment does work in Australia, The company sends the connectors you need in order to connect it up to your electrical system, At this point, the company has to ship the equipment from the USA to all foreign countries.

I am interested in this product for my husband, who has Parkinsons. Does this help with balance and walking better? Or has that not been established yet? If one buys the Portable version of this product, do you have to have a very firm couch to place it on in order to get full benefits? Thank you.

I have heard second hand that results of a Rush Medical center study show that yes – vibration therapy does help a great deal with balance and mobility issues. People have reported the same on my radio shows, so I have confidence that it is providing relief from symptoms associated with Parkinsons Disease. I have not yet actually seen a release of the Rush medical study of vibration therapy though preliminary copies are being circulated. Dr. Suzanne Jonas discussed the results of the Rush study during my radio show with her several weeks ago (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/parkinsons-recovery).

You can place the pads anywhere. Many people place one pad between their back and a chair and plant their feet on the other pad which is placed on the floor. Other people place both pads under their mattress and listen to the Parkinsons CD (which comes with the VibroMax when you order it here) and vibrate as they sleep. You can place the pads anywhere to see what provides the greatest relief for the longest period of time.

A hard surface is not necessary or required. The strength of the vibrations is controlled by the volume you set for the sound. The higher the volume, the stronger the vibrations,
